Housing planned for Longsight Cricket Club

THE former Longsight Cricket Club in south Manchester is to be converted into a new housing scheme for social landlord Great Places by developer G&J Seddon.

An application has just been submitted to Manchester City Council to demolish the existing clubhouse and build a new clubhouse next to the onsite bowling green, which will be retained.

A financial package is also being offered to upgrade both cricket facilities and changing areas at the nearby Crowcroft Park and Cringle Fields Park.

The new housing scheme will consist of 83 properties including nine bungalows, 40 family homes and 18 apartments for rent via social housing landlord Great Places. Another nine homes will be offered under shared ownership and seven will be available on the open market.

The application submitted by Seddon and Great Places states that the cricket club has not been used for eight years. It adds that its scheme, designed by Stockport-based architects Bowker Sadler, “aims to provide a wide variety of housing types in a range if tenures, meeting as many of Manchester City Council’s housing and regeneration strategies as possible”.

A decision on whether to grant permission for the scheme is expected to be made by the end of April.
