Morgan Sindall completes £50m Wigan Life Centre

CONSTRUCTION company Morgan Sindall, has completed a £50m project to build a new public services hub for Wigan Borough Council.
The Wigan Life Centre, which opened earlier this month, is one of the largest municipal facilities in the country and will deliver a range of council services and leisure facilities.
The 215,000 sq ft building includes a contact centre and central offices for the council, the local NHS trusts and various community groups. There is also a new public library and a healthy living zone containing a 25-metre public swimming pool, a separate learning pool and a gym. The overall investment in the project has topped £217m.
Jim Morgan, Morgan Sindall area director, said “The new centre is a tremendously important facility for the people of Wigan. This has been an exciting and ambitious project to work on and it’s fantastic to see people enjoying the new facilities.
“We’ve enjoyed a particularly strong partnership with Wigan Council throughout the project and we’re very pleased to have played a role in revitalising the town’s civic heart.”
Wigan Council’s cabinet member for customer service, Cllr Chris Ready, said: “At a time of economic uncertainty, it is great to see a major building project such as this, which has created jobs and will support the future regeneration of our borough, come to fruition.”
