Ingersoll Rand could cut 100 Hindley Green jobs

ENGINEERING conglomerate Ingersoll Rand has announced plans to close its Industrial Technologies Sector distribution business at Hindley Green, near Wigan, which could lead to 100 job losses.

The company said that it was planning to consolidate the distribution operations for its Industrial Technologies Sector division which “could potentially result in the closure of the ITS Distribution Operations facility in Hindley Green”.

The division, which distributes industrial air compression units from a large warehouse, employs around 66 people at Hindley Green but the firm is planning to incorporate its work at one of its European bases.

On top of this, the company also announced that it was planning to reorganise sales, marketing, administrative and finance functions at the site. A statement issued by the company said that “any function currently located at Hindley Green that does not provide direct support for UK and Ireland sales” is under review.

As a result, the firm said that a total of around 100 of the 200 people currently employed at the site could be impacted and that it is considering relocating the  remaining operations.

However, human resources manager Karen Knight said that any move would be “somewhere in the vicinity” of the Hindley Green site in order to avoid too much disruption to the remaining staff.

“We’re hoping to stay in the immediate area,” she said.
