Packing service offers clean break

AKW Group, the transport and logistics specialist, has spent £35,000 developing a clean room facility at its Trafford Park headquarters.

The firm said that the 1,500 sq ft clean room, which has been accredited by the British Retail Consortium, strengthens its position in the contract packing market. The company also recently invested £150,000 in steam sleeving machinery.

AKW Group director Rebbecca Davies who heads the contract packing Rebecca Davis of AKWdivision, said: “Our intention is very simple – we want AKW to be the leading player in the UK contract packing market.

“To do this, we are investing in technologies and facilities that enable us to offer the very best service to both existing and potential clients and I am confident that the benefits of this strategy will quickly become apparent.”

AKW has invested heavily in its contract packing business over the last five years and now carries out technically-driven contract packing services that includes gift set assembly, steam sleeving, shelf-ready packing, shrink wrapping, product labeling and building retail pallet displays.

Customers include L’Oreal, P&G, Diageo, Unilever, Kellogg’s and Heinz.

The group, which is owned by Tony Worthington, made a pre-tax profit of £394,000 in 2011 on sales of £16.2m.
