New £130m housing initiative breaks ground in Liverpool

WORK has begun on a programme in Liverpool which will see up to 2,000 new homes delivered as part of a three-year, £130m initiative.
A new scheme at Booker Avenue and Greenhill Road in Allerton will see 14 two- and three-bed houses built by South Liverpool Homes, which will be the first in a series of collaborative ventures between the city council and four social housing landlords.
The council is making plots of land available both to registered housing providers and to private landlords for development in a bid to improve the quality and range of the city’s housing stock. The 14 homes at Allerton are all being offered on a shared ownership basis.
Council leader Joe Anderson said: “This is the first of many sites across the city that the Council is making available to our consortium partners for affordable housing. We want to make sure that we are providing the type of housing that our residents have said they need and not out of their financial reach.
“This is a hugely ambitious programme which will deliver high quality housing, much-needed jobs and help regenerate neighbourhoods.”
South Liverpool Homes (SLH) chief executive Julie Fadden said: “The development will provide a much needed boost to people who are looking to get on the property ladder and will give them the opportunity to live in homes that they may not otherwise be able to buy.”
