Council approves ITV’s Quay St blueprint

ITV’s plans for the redevelopment of its 14-acre Quay St site in Manchester city centre have been endorsed by the city council’s executive.
The plans, which were first revealed by TheBusinessDesk.com on Monday, involve the potential for a visitor attraction based around the Coronation St set, new Grade A office buildings on Quay St facing Spinningfields and the proposed Central Salford scheme, the redevelopment of Granada House to provide cheaper Grade B space and the extension of John St to create a potential “Harley St of the North”.
New high-spec residential apartments are also proposed, including larger properties for families, and a series of independent restaurants and retail outlets.
Peter Copley, property director at ITV, said: “ITV is strengthening its commitment to the region through its investment at MediaCityUK but is also keen to leave a strong legacy in Manchester city centre.
“There’s an opportunity at Quay Street for a best-in-class regeneration project that extends already successful parts of the city centre and draws on the rich history and character of the site. We’re all excited about seeing these plans become a reality.”
The development framework was prepared by Drivers Jonas Deloitte with a team that includes EPR Architects, Jones Lang LaSalle, Waterman Boreham, Gardiner & Theobald and Buro Happold.
Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to build on the existing success of Manchester city centre, which is continuing to attract substantial development despite the challenging financial climate, and in particular nearby Spinningfields.
“Subject to consultation, the council’s endorsement of the masterplan provides a firm foundation for investors to look at a variety of mixed-use development options.”
Jones Lang LaSalle will be acting as agents for the site. Associate director Adam White said the council’s endorsement of the framework “triggers our full scale marketing campaign which will officially launch on March 24”.
