Amey to open new Manchester hub

ENGINEERING firm Amey is to open a new North West hub in Manchester which could lead to 50 new jobs being created.

The company, which already looks after street lighting across the city, is moving 100 staff to new accommodation at Bruntwood’s City Tower building next month and said that it could add the extra jobs within the next 12 months.

Chief executive Mel Ewell said: “This move shows Amey’s long term commitment to the North West region, where we’ll be looking to draw from the labour market rich in expertise, in line with our expansion plans. Amey chief executive Mel Ewell

“We already have a presence in Manchester city centre where we work in the heart of the community looking after tens of thousands of street-lights. Manchester is a vibrant, dynamic city with excellent transport links and we believe it’s the ideal place for our North West Hub.”

The firm has signed a ten-year lease at City Tower, where it will take 12,000 sq ft of space over two floors. One will be occupied by Amey’s Technology Solutions Centre, which provides information management, security and control services.

Part of the space will also be taken by the firm’s rail asset management team, which inspects the UK’s rail tunnels, bridges and stations under a £250m nationwide agreement with Network Rail.

The firm also said that it will create apprenticeship posts in the city and plans to work with local universities to offer graduate engineering roles.

Andy Milner, managing director of Amey’s consulting division, said: “Bringing together skilled professionals in one central hub will help us to continually innovate and deliver a more efficient and effective service for our clients to benefit local people.”
