20 exporters honoured with Queen’s Awards

THE region’s finest exporters will carry a Royl seal of approval after receiving Jubilee year Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

A total of 20 companies will receive the prestigious honour for outstanding success in international trade, with five awards for innovation and one each for sustainable development and enterprise promotion.

The Export winners are:

Nelson-based ACDC LED, which designs and manufactures specialist long-life architectural LED and Cold Cathode lighting solutions. It has grown overseas earnings growth by 90% in the last three years.

Allied Filter Systems of Irlam, a manufacturer of filter consumables for liquid process industries; primarily filter bags from woven and non-woven materials.

Eccles company Americhem Europe designs and manufactures colour and other additives for the thermoplastic processing industry. A subsidiary of an Ohio-based group, Americem Europe’s export sales are 80% of turnover.

With 115 staff, Accrington’s BMP Europe specialises in the manufacture and conversion of technical non-woven textiles and other products. A previous winner of the Innovation award, BMP operates in 17 international markets.

ChargePoint Technology is a Liverpool-based manufacturer, supplies high precision containment valves to a number of sectors including pharmaceutical. Over the last three years turnover has more than doubled with exports accounting for around 92%. It has also set up offices in France, Netherlands, and the US.

Online gifts retailer Colonial Gifts has just 14 staff and was founded in 2006. It sells floral, food and beverage gifts. Over the last three years overseas earning have rocketed 200%. The company promises same-day delivery in 60% of the 119 countries in which it operates.

Part of The Stoves Group, Liverpool-based Glen Dimplex Home Appliances sells ovens, grills and cookers along with other domestic and electrical appliances. In recent years it has entered a number of new markets including Poland, Germany and Israel.

Double winner – Warrington small business ICC Solutions  – develops and supplies test tools for Chip & PIN certifications to payment associations and banks. A first-time winner, the 14-strong firm has seen 115% overall growth in overseas. The company, founded by David and Wendy Maisey, has also won the award for Innovation.

Mr Maisey told TheBusinessDesk.com the Queen’s Awards were a “tremendous achievement”, adding: “This clearly demonstrates that ICC Solutions is truly capable of comprehensively servicing a global market with the most innovative tools to the highest levels of excellence.”

Established in 2005, Southport-based INCINER8 is a manufacturer and merchant of waste incinerators and related recycling equipment. Export sales have increased 136% over the last three years.

Stockport company JD Hughes Group is a specialist manufacturer of emergency safety showers and decontamination equipment. It has achieved overseas earnings growth of 205% over the last six years. It has international sales offices in Germany, the UAE and North America.

Accrington-based Langtec manufactures insulating products. It has 49 staff and has achieved overseas earnings growth of over 66% over the last three years and has grown its workforce by 40% in the same timeframe. It exports to 20 markets, having recently entered Brazil, Hungary, China and New Zealand.

Hi-tech company Laser Quantum is based at Heaton Mersey, Stockport, and has seen overseas earnings growth of 190% in the last three years. It is a manufacturer of laser technology providing equipment and services to the aerospace, medicine, research and biomedical sectors.

Brisbane Moss, the trading name of M Chapman & Sons Textiles of Todmorden is a producer and stockist of moleskin and corduroy.  It has just nine staff but has entered a number of new markets in the last three years including China, Chile, Columbia, Argentina and Australia.

Salford company Mettler Toledo Safeline, has more than 220 staff and manufactures highly-sensitive metal detectors used by leading food, beverage and pharmaceutical companies to protect consumers from the risk of metallic contamination in their products.  It exports more than 95% of its total volume.

Also Salford-based, Morson Projects is a provider of technology-driven engineering from concept design to total project implementation. Key sectors are aerospace, nuclear, general engineering, and automotive.  It has recently established itself in six new markets, Canada, Germany, France, USA, Italy, and Spain.

Nichols is the listed parent company of Vimto, which has been exporting sinceVIMTO, Nichols the 1920s. Newton-le-Willows-based Nichols wins the award for the first time for its outstanding achievement in exports, penetrating an additional 18 markets in the three-year period of the award.

Macclesfield firm Oerlikon Fibrevision exports 100% of sales. Founded in 1998, and owned since 2008 by Swiss company, Oerlikon Fibrevision has achieved a three-fold increase in turnover in the last three years. It is a manufacturer of sensors and monitoring equipment for the synthetic fibre industry.

Oliver Valvetek of Knutsford, manufactures and suppies high-pressure valves that work beneath the sea. A first-time winner, Oliver has grown export sales by more than 20% year-on-year over the last three years.

Family-owned outdoor clothing company Regatta has more than 340 staff and is based on Trafford Park.  A first-time winner, it has been recognised for continuous improvement in export sales growth. Sales have grown152% over the last six years.

Knutsford small business, The Clinical Trial Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It has just 16 staff but in the last three years it has grown overseas earnings by 193%. The company provides clinical contract research services to the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.
