New system helps oil firms avoid slip-ups

AN Altrincham company has launched a new service to help oil companies respond more quickly and effectively to major emergencies.

JJ Black Consultancy said that its ‘single platform system’ or SPS, provides an automatic identification system to help oil companies locate where their assets – be it people, vehicles or equipment – are when a major emergency occurs. It can then work via remote access online to reallocate them.

The company, which has offices in the UK but operates in the USA, the Caribbean, and East and West Africa, specialises in developing asset tracking and fleet management software for energy companies.

Managing director Jim Black said: “The key benefit of this new service is that senior executives in head offices in London or Houston or elsewhere can respond to an emergency, at least initially, via remote access over the internet, without having to get on a plane to the location of the emergency.

“This will save oil and other energy companies significant sums in responding to a major emergency.”

Mr Black said that the system improves the chances of a quicker and more effective response to any emergency.

“For example, energy companies can see, via remote access, all vessels – including even those that it does not own – in a geographical location and in the event of an emergency can contact the local authorities, usually the coastguard, to ask the nearest vessel to assist with the vessel in distress. This can save time, money and lives.”

He added that one of its existing customers – a major international oil company with interests in Africa – has already bought the system.
