Obituary: Movetech founder John Entwistle

RESPECTED Bolton businessman John Entwistle, chairman of the British Turntable Company, has died age 77, after a short illness.

The award-winning businessman and author, was born and bred in Bolton, and was the son of ohn Entwistle Snr, who owned the Entwistle & Walker car dealership.

An engineer and accountant by trade, John Entwistle junior became an inventor aged 24 when his father asked him to design and build a disply turntable for the car showroom.

The first unit was such a success that, in 1959, he founded Bolton Turntable Co at Flash Street Mill and left his job with De Havilland to work on his new buisiness.

Now known as Movetech (UK) and run by one of his sons Tim, the company has exported to more than 140 countries.

Throughout his working life John Entwistle was committed to putting  Bolton on the business map – he as a council member of the Bolton & Bury Chamber of Commerce for many years.

In 2008 Mr Entwistle won a Special Achievement Award at the Bolton &
Bury Business Awards for his work in building British Turntable.

Aftter retirting he he published his  autobiography, Bolton Born and Bred and last year his first novel, Dreams Really Do Come True.

He  leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, six children and 10 grandchildren.
