Stena spends £4m on ship upgrades

SHIPPING company Stena Line has completed a £4m refit of two vessels which will be put to work on its recently-acquired Liverpool-Belfast route.

The Swedish shipping giant acquired two Belfast routes from Liverpool and Birkenhead/Heysham from Danish operator DFDS last year in a deal worth £40m.
Since March, ship refurbishment works have been carried out at the Harland & Wolff yard in Belfast by Newry-based fitout specialist MJM Marine.

Work on the two velssels, Stena Mersey and Stena Lagan, has now been completed and the ships include a pod area with five iMacs, new restaurants, gift shops and a trucker’s lounge. Free wi-fi has also been installed on both vessels.StenaLagan refurbed shop

Stena Line’s newly-appointed Liverpool-Belfast route director, Richard Horswill, said: “With the two ships now having completed their comprehensive refit and upgrade, I can assure customers that they are in for a real treat.

“The refurbished Stena Mersey and Stena Lagan opens a new chapter in customer service for the route and I am delighted to be leading the team at this exciting time.”
