Safeline triumphs at Salford Business Awards

ENGINEERING company Safeline was named Large Business of the Year at last night’s Salford Business Awards, while virtualisation company Cetus Solutions was named best small business.

Safeline designs and manufactures inline inspection systems which detects and removes contaminants from production lines. The company was founded in 1989 but has since been acquired by Swiss industrial systems giant Mettler Toledo.

Cetus Systems, meanwhile, is a Salford Quays-based IT business owned by Michael English which designs scalable It networks amd communications systems.

Safeline also picked up the International Trade award, while the Entrepreneur Award went to Guy Levine’s company, Return on Digital.

The awards, which took place at Salford City Stadium, are organised by the University of Salford, Salford City Council and Business Group Salford. BBC business journalist Evan Davies, who hosts Radio 4’s The Bottom Line business discussion programme, was the after-dinner speaker at the event, which was hosted by Gordon Burns.

Paul Wainwright, chair The Business Group Salford, said: “Each year we see an incredible standard of entries and all applicants should be extremely proud of their achievements throughout what has been a difficult twelve months for many.

“Highlighting the success and valuable contribution of these organisations is an important part of encouraging people to do business in Salford and we hope to welcome many more businesses to the city in time for the 2013 Awards.”

Salford’s new elected Mayor, Ian Stewart, said: “This event is a great way to celebrate the success of businesses in Salford. One of my biggest priorities is to support local businesses and drive further inward investment to the city.”
