Pure Gym to open at Central Village

BUDGET 24 hour gym chain Pure Gym has taken 20,000 sq ft in Merepark’s £120m Central Village development.

Pure Gym launched in 2009 in Manchester’s Spinningfields and now has 25 branches across the UK, with a further 15 in the pipeline for 2012. Four of these are scheduled to open in the North West  and another four in planning.

The Central Village unit will be based on the lower ground floor of the refurbished Lewis’s building on Renshaw St and takes the amount of space pre-let at the scheme to more than 90,000 sq ft in addition to the three hotels which have signed up to the site and car parks operator Q-Park. It will employ around 30 staff when it opens next year.

Director Peter Roberts said: “Liverpool has long been a city on the rise, and we’re delighted to be able to confirm our first move here. “Liverpool’s renaissance in recent years has placed it amongst the most compelling cities to invest in across the UK and combined with the offering at Central Village, it is a no-brainer for the Pure Gym concept.”

Merepark is currently on site delivering the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Lewis’s building, which has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This will include the 126-bed Adagio apartment hotel – due to open early next year.

Work has also started on bringing around 80,000 sq ft of unused floors in the office back to life as new office space.

Merepark associate director Neal Hunter said: “Pure Gym’s move to Liverpool is a real coup for the city, and we’re delighted to be able to host it at Central Village.”

Savills and CBRE are advising on the leisure offering for Merepark.
