Jobs go in Bury as soap firm closes

A BURY-based soap manufacturer has gone into administration with the loss of 40 jobs.

Sigma Soap ran out of funds and had not been trading for two weeks when Mazars partners Robert Adamson and Tim Askham were appointed as administrators on July 2.

The 30 year-old company was a contract and private label manufacturer of soap and detergents products with an annual turnover of £3.5m. It also produced disinfectants under its Mays brand.

The business had been owned by its four directors – Ian Harrison, Stephen Collinge, John Omand and David Clucas.

Joint administrator Robert Adamson said: “We were seeking a buyer but unfortunately one was not forthcoming and with no funds to trade the business we had to make the staff redundant.

“A sale of machinery has taken place to an unconnected party and an offer has been received for stock and remaining assets that we anticipate will be finalised soon.”
