LAW firm Cobbetts has won a four-year contract with the University of Exeter, to provide legal support on commercial and intellectual property matters.

Lead partner on the team will be education specialist Vincent King, supported by partners Susan Hall and Frances Anderson, and associates James Clayton and Nicola Jenkins in Cobbetts’ commercial and intellectual property team.

Manchester-based partner Susan Hall said: “Over the past decade, the University of Exeter has built upon its already strong reputation to become one of the country’s top universities. This is a result of exceptional research and development and sheer dedication shown by staff, students and graduates.

“Higher education bodies must be very clear about what actions to take to protect intellectual property and their commercial interests to remain competitive and at the top of their game.”

Exeter has recently joined the Russell Group, which represents the UK’s most prestigious higher education research institutions.

LAW firm Kuits advised Somerset House – the London-based arts and cultural centre in obtaining the licence for Casa Brazil during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Casa Brazil showcases Brazil’s culture with visitors being able to get a previewop on preparations for the next Olympic Games which will be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.  The venue plays host to a program of exhibitions, film screenings, music performances, events and parties which will run until 9th September.

Casa Brazil is also the home of the Brazilian Olympic and Paralympic Teams during the Games.

Anthony Lyons and Felicity Harris-Knott from Kuits’ licensing team at Kuits obtained the licence for Somerset House.

“We have advised Somerset House on various licence applications for a number of years but this occasion is definitely a highlight.  It is a fantastic idea that people can learn more about Brazilian culture and what the country has to offer visitors looking forward to the Games in 2016.”
