Manchester benefits from Olympic feelgood factor

THE Olympics pulled thousands of people into Manchester city centre, according to the city council.

It said a large screen at Exchange Square attracted 350,000 during the course of the two-week games.

Some 30,000 gathered to watch on ‘super saturday’ when Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford all won gold.

Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, councillor Rosa Battle, said: “The 2012 Olympics will be remembered as a phenemonal success for Team GB and Mancunians have been among the first to get behind our athletes, many of whom were trained just a few miles away from the city centre.”
