Liverpool proposal ‘could create 1,000 jobs’

LIVERPOOL City Council says it is in talks with a developer about the construction of a new facility for a “global company” – believed to be Amazon – that could create 1,000 jobs.

A statement released by the council late on Friday said it had been approached by an unnamed developer which had identified the council-owned Stonebridge Cross site off the East Lancs Road in Gilmoss.

There are already plans for the site which include new homes, a retail development and a school, but the council said these could be accommodated on an “alternative site”.

A planning application is due to be submitted at the end of August, and if successful the scheme could be complete by autumn 2013.

Mayor Joe Anderson said: “This is a hugely exciting proposal which has the potential to be a real game changer for this part of the city.

“It will create over a thousand quality jobs on a scale which has not been seen for many decades.”
