Retail industry converges on Liverpool

LIVERPOOL’S Arena and Convention Centre is hosting this year’s British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) Conference which starts on Monday.

Around 2,500 developers, investors, shopping centre owners and retailers are expected at the three-day event.

The keynote speakers are Pizza Express co-founder Like Johnson and Mary Portas, who unveiled a number of “Portas pilots” earlier in the year to re-invigorate High Streets – which have struggled to compete with out-of-town retail parks and shopping centres.

BCSC chief executive Michael Green said: “To have such a wealth of experience and knowledge from such a diverse industry all in one place always sparks great debate; this year’s keynote speakers, Mary Portas and Luke Johnson will not disappoint.

“The changes Liverpool has undergone over the last decade make it an excellent location to host the event. With such a proud history and vibrant local economy, we are excited to be in Liverpool for the next three days which will hopefully see successful networking and deal making.”
