InterContinental Hotels ‘eyes Employment Exchange’

INTERCONTINENTAL Hotels Group is said to be circling for the derelict Employment Exchange site near Piccadilly in Manchester.

A report in Estates Gazette magazine suggests the hotel group has nearly agreed a deal with administrators at Deloitte who have been looking to sell the site since the 2010 collapse of its owner, Liverpool-based Albany Estates.

According to the story IHG plans to turn the site into a 350-bed Holiday Inn and will submit plans before the end of the year.

IHG is also said to be pushing ahead with plans to open a five-star hotel at the Theatre Royal on Peter Street. Landlord owner wants to bring live music back to the venue but also wants a high-end hotel in a new tower at the rear of the building.

Next year work will start on a hotel at the Co-op’s NOMA scheme in Manchester that will carry IHG’s boutique Hotel Indigo brand.
