Awards to honour the best finance directors

ELITE finance directors from across the region are to be celebrated at the 2012 North West Finance Director of the Year Awards.

The NW FD Awards will again honour the outstanding contribution and efforts made by finance directors towards the overall success of their organisations.

Candidates will be judged on all-round commercial and managerial skills, including inter-personal qualities and business acumen, as well as the more traditional technical accounting and financial skills.

Judging will take place during October and November with the black tie awards dinner on November 28 at The Hilton Hotel, Manchester.

The 2012 awards categories are:

•    Best FD of a Limited Company (under £50m turnover)
•    Best FD of a Limited Company (over £50m turnover)
•    Best FD of a Plc
•    Young FD of the Year (up to 40 years of age)
•    Best FD of a Private Equity-backed Business
•    Best FD of a Public Sector Organisation
•    Outstanding achievement award

Cliff Sewell, chief executive at Sewell Recruitment Group, said: “As we start to see positive signs within the market, North West businesses continue to show growth and optimism with many pursuing opportunities for expansion and success. The awards allow us to celebrate the achievements of such individuals.”

Michael Hartig, head of corporate banking at Barclays in Manchester, said: “Barclays is delighted to be a major supporter of The North West FD Awards. The role of an FD has certainly changed dramatically over the years and although there is still a strong financial bias, it is the strategic and commercial input for which today’s FD is especially valued. We expect that with time, many of the region’s most exceptional FDs will become the managing directors and chief executives of tomorrow.”

Alastair Nuttall, partner at Ernst & Young in the North West added: “With slow UK and European growth finance directors continue to streamline operations and steady the ship at home but are now just as likely to be looking for growth opportunities further afield.

“In the search for new global markets, especially the post BRIC emerging markets, finance directors are leading the way; evaluating market viability, planning entry strategies and dealing with the challenge of establishing a corporate and physical presence overseas.”

Jane Haxby, corporate finance partner and Manchester office managing partner at law firm Squire Sanders, said: “FDs play a major role in making the region’s economy what it is and these awards will once again highlight the skills and expertise of FDs in the North West.”
