Keoghs calls for action on road deaths

BOLTON law firm Keoghs is calling for schools to teach pupils about driving to help to cut the number of fatal accidents involving young drivers.

The firm, which employs 1,000 people at sites in Bolton and Coventry provides claims-related legal services to the insurance sector.

Director of market affairs Steve Thomas will address a fringe event of the Labour Party conference on the issue today (October 1).

He will tell the event: “At Keoghs, we become involved after the event. We are repeatedly instructed to deal with fatal claims and claims that involve injuries of the utmost severity.

“These are tragic cases involving people’s children starting out in life. We have a collective duty of care towards these young people; we need to be satisfied that they are equipped with the skills to drive safely and the awareness of the inherent danger of the activity.”

In 2009, 2,605 people died in road accidents, representing around 0.5% of all deaths for the total population. Those aged from 15-19 account for 25% of all deaths.
