LED deal lights up Nanoco

PIONEERING nanotechnology firm Nanoco is continuing its partnership with “one of the world’s largest lighting companies”.
It has struck a deal with the business to use its technology in LED lighting for commercial, residential and other uses.
The AIM-listed company did not name its partner or say how much the work is worth.
Manchester-based Nanoco makes quantum dots – tiny fluorescent particles of semiconductor material which have the ability to emit light. They are in demand because they consume less power than existing systems.
The latest deal follows a joint venture with the lighting business signed last year. Nanoco said its technology can transform blue LEDs so they produce white light with a high colour rendering index (CRI), which means they can show true colours in domestic and office environments. According to the company LED lights have not been widely adopted because they lack warmth.
Chief executive Michael Edelman said: “We’re delighted to have signed this product development agreement and to be working with one of world’s largest and most innovative lighting companies. Our quantum dots have the potential to unlock the many advantages of LEDs, creating a major commercial opportunity for Nanoco.”
