Mexico ’68 designer to top Designival bill

LANCE Wyman, the New York-based designer behind the Mexico ’68 Olympic logo, is to be the keynote speaker at design festival Designival.

Around 500 delegates are expected at the event in Liverpool on November 22-23, which the organisers say is the biggest of its kind in the North.

It has been put together by the Liverpool-based design agencies Uniform, Black & Ginger and Smiling Wolf.

Wyman’s iconic work for the Olympics is still revered as the best and most famous piece of logo design in Olympic history.

The 74-year old, pictured, described by The Washington Post as a “rock star” of graphic arts, has designed a wealth of memorable icons, signage and branding. In 2008, when he created a poster for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

Lance WymanHe will be joined on stage by Simon Manchipp, founder of London-based agency, SomeOne. Manchipp has worked with a string of high profile brands, including Sky Sports, O2, Royal Opera House and Eurostar.

Nick Howe, managing director of Uniform said: “This is the biggest and best event we’ve held to date. It marks a significant shift. This is a celebration of the best, most innovative, most celebrated design across the world, and its now a multifaceted festival with fringe events, pop-up shops, exhibitions and masterclasses.”
