Billington Group snaps up Welsh food firm

LIVERPOOL’S Billington Group has bought a Welsh firm that supplies soups and sauces to food manufacturers and caterers.

The value of the deal was not disclosed but the Newport-based business has sales of £23m and employs 200 people.

Billington, a supplier to the food and agriculture businesses, said the deal would help it move into the food-service sector.

Chief executive Gary Blake said: “This is a superb acquisition for us as we believe Bar Foods is a perfect fit with the group’s strategic vision and takes us further into the Foodservice sector with a team of people who have considerable knowledge and a genuine passion for innovation and quality.”

Aisling Kemp, managing director of Bar Foods, said: “This is a fantastic move for Bar Foods. We have grown significantly over the last eight years with a focus on innovation and quality seen in both our products and the people who work for us.”
