Ryanair rolls out new Manchester and Liverpool routes

LOW COST airline Ryanair has announced further growth of its Manchester and Liverpool operations with seven new destinations being added from next summer.

The Irish carrier says its growth in this region combined with further expansion at East Midlands will sustain up to 1,000 new jobs.

Ryanair’s outspoken chief executive Michael O’Leary will be attending a press conference in Manchester, where he will say: “Ryanair today celebrates 1m passenger growth at three airports, with 9 new routes, which will sustain 1,000 new jobs at Manchester, Liverpool and East Midlands airports.

“Our 34 Manchester routes (including five new to Corfu, Krakow, Lanzarote , Paphos and Trapani), 39 Liverpool routes (including two new to Lublin and Zadar) and 38 East Midlands routes (including 2 new to Marseille and Menorca) will deliver almost 7m passengers and sustain over 7,000  jobs at Manchester, Liverpool and East Midlands airports in 2013.”

At Manchester, where Ryanair is growing fast after having reconciled a fall-out over fees about 18 months ago, the airline will base an extra aircraft to deliver the five new routes.

From next summer tt estimates the new routes will attract 360,000 new passengers, lifting total numbers to 2.4 million a year. The investment will help create 360 jobs, the airline believes.

The growth at Liverpool John Lennon Airport will take the number of routes to 29 and attract 180,000 new passengers – over 2.1million per year.

Ryanair’s nine new summer routes from Manchester, Liverpool and East Midlands will be available for booking on www.ryanair.com tomorrow.

Yesterday British Airways said it was axing its three daily flights from Manchester Airport to Gatwick from the end of March.

Charlie Cornish, Chief Executive of MAG, said: “The announcement by Ryanair is another sign of its continuing confidence in Manchester and willingness to expand its range of services for our passengers.

“We want to work alongside our airlines to grow their services across our airports and the expansion by Ryanair today represents the type of growth opportunities we are actively seeking in the market.”

Craig Richmond, CEO Peel Airports commented, “We’re delighted with Ryanair’s latest commitment to grow their business from Liverpool. Their decision to add an additional 180,000 seats on their Liverpool operations for next Summer along with brand new routes, including Zadar on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is great news both for the airport and the region too.”

It gives holidaymakers an even greater choice of value for money destinations next year and a further boost for the local economy with more visitors to Liverpool and the North West”
