Food supplier Amato on the move

A FOOD wholesaler is on the move to a larger premises after a new funding deal.

Manchester-based Amato Food Products, which supplies hundreds of independent restaurants in the North, is buying a 1.6 acre site near to its rented base on North Western Street after sealing a £455,000 term loan from Santander Corporate Banking.

Amato was founded in 1993 by Bob and Delores Amato. It initially sold Italian ingredients such as fresh, home-made pasta, tomatoes and Italian cheese, but now sells more than 1,500 products to more than 600 trade customers.

An increase in orders has seen it stuggling for space and the 25-strong outfit has been looking for alternative premises for nearly a year.

The move will it significantly expand its operations and capitalise on new market opportunities.
