Mixed-use scheme planned for Middlewood Locks

SCARBOROUGH Development Group has drawn up proposals for a one million sq ft mixed-use scheme at Middlewood Locks in Salford.
Scarborough acquired the 21-acre site from Grant Thornton in February in its role as administrator to prior owners Valley & Vale Properties. The deal was reported to be worth £10m.
It wants to build 347 family houses and maisonettes, a community or educational building and a sports and leisure facility. There will also be 325,888 sq ft of retail, leisure and commercial space.
Trees will be planted at the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal which bisects the site, and it will also be cleaned up.
Development director, Lee Savage said: “Middlewood Locks is a huge site which has the potential to create a thriving new neighbourhood for Salford, bringing an opportunity for a range of homes and jobs.
“Scarborough Development has worked closely with the local community and come up with what we believe to be a really exciting scheme, so I’m looking forward to revealing the plans and finding out what people think.”
The plans will be on show today at St Philip’s Church, 2 Wilton Place and at The Angel Centre, 1 St Philips Place on Friday. A planning application is expected to be submitted in January.
Scarborough, which has its head office in Scarborough, is owned by Kevin McCabe, who also owns Sheffield United.
