Appointments: Mark Hovell; Citypress PR; BCMS; Vibe & more

SPORTS lawyer Mark Hovell, managing partner Manchester law firm George Davies, has been appointed to the editorial board of online sports publication LawInSport.

The international publication provides readers with daily sports law and business information, topical articles of legal opinion and expert blogs.

Mr Hovell leads the sports team at George Davies and is an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and a visiting lecturer in international sports law at St John’s University in New York.

MANCHESTER-based national PR firm Citypress has made another senior hire with the appointment of Liz Larvin as account director in its financial services team.

She was formerly press and communications manager at the British Chambers of Commerce.  Before this specialised in providing strategic PR support for financial institutions. Experience includes work for Barclays Business, HSBC Global Transaction Banking, Bank of America and 1st Credit.

Alex Barnett, associate director and head of financial services, said: “Liz was a natural fit for our expanding financial services team.  She has strong media contacts across both national print and broadcast media and is used to managing complex issues and research-led campaigns. She adds another dimension to our already experienced team and will help contribute to our continued success.”

BCMS Corporate; a specialist in the sale of private businesses has boosted its business development team in the North West to capitalise on increasing deal activity in the region.
 
Chris Ryan has joined the business development team at the firm’s office in Haslingden, Lancashire. He has 11 years’ experience of advising SMEs on company sales.
 
He said: “We have completed 13 deals in the last four weeks alone, almost a third of these have come out of the North West region.

“We are now seeing record levels of activity with October being a record month in our 20 year history for the number of acquirers actively coming to us looking for UK businesses.”

EMMA Cameron has joined Macclesfield-based brand agency Vibe as account director.

Formerly account director at global agency, Havas PR’s Manchester office, she joins Vibe’s growing PR division which was set up 12 months ago by former colleague Natalie Nuttall.

Jason Patrick, managing director of Vibe said: “Emma is a valuable addition to our team with an exceptional track record and will play an integral role in growing the division.”

CHRIS Renshaw, senior surveyor at the Manchester office of property consultants Bruton Knowles has been promoted to associate.

Mr Renshaw has particular expertise in the retail sector.  Clients include Ladbrokes and the Co-operative Group.

James Bailey, partner and head of firm’s Manchester office, said: “Chris’ experience spans a broad spectrum; not only does he have expertise in a range of professional services, he also has excellent knowledge of the commercial market in Manchester and the wider region.”

Chris joined Bruton Knowles six months ago and was formerly a director at property consultancy CRC North in Manchester.
