ONGOING issues in the Eurozone, coupled with the so-called ‘fiscal cliff’ in the US, have left many wondering if international aspirations are the best way forward.

However, markets such as Brazil and India, alongside emerging countries like Columbia and Egypt, are being capitalised on by many Yorkshire businesses.

TheBusinessDesk.com is once again delighted to be running this milestone project in association with our lead sponsor, law firm DLA Piper. The initiative is also supported by Yorkshire Bank and the CBI.

Elia Montorio, a corporate partner at DLA Piper in Manchester, said: “Last year, just over a quarter of respondents identified overseas markets as the best growth opportunities for their business, the majority of which were looking to Europe, BRICS and the USA.  With the domestic economy remaining sluggish, turbulence continuing in the Eurozone and the fiscal cliff of tax rises and spending cuts hanging over the US, we may see a rise in the number of businesses looking for opportunities on the international stage.

“Along with countries like Mexico, the fast growing BRICS/CIVETS (Columbia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa) economies are presenting the kinds of opportunities that businesses are struggling to find closer to home. It will be interesting to see if this is reflected in this year’s findings.”
