Vernacare toasts manufacturing hat-trick

MEDICAL products producer Vernacare has picked up a third industry award in the last few months
The Bolton-based company has been highly-commended in the prestigious Manufacturer of the Year Awards, where it was shortlisted alongside industrial giants including BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Ford, Sony, Coca-Cola and United Biscuits.
The success follows previous recognition at the Cranfield School of Management and Work Management’s Best Factory Awards, where Vernacare won the judges’ special award for leadership, cultural change and engineering, and it was second and highly commended in the best process plant category.
Derek McIntyre, global operations director at Vernacare, said: “2012 has been quite a year and I am enormously proud of this trio of awards and the superb achievements of my teams.
“Our success is all the more impressive given the modest size of our operation and the limited resources we have available. We have learned a great deal by going through this process and while it’s nice to gain recognition, the important thing for us will be to put in place the new learning and ideas that we have gathered.”
Recent investment in engineering excellence and lean-based manufacturing systems has enabled Vernacare to drive efficiencies through the manufacturing process and pass on cost savings to customers.
Vernacare is the global market leader in single-use disposable medical pulp products such as bedpans and washing bowls, made from 100% recycled newspaper.
