Comfy Quilts snuggles down as profits leap

FAMILY-owned bedding manufacturer Comfy Quilts has reported a surge in sales and profits.

The Wilmslow-based company, which has its factory and warehouse in Middleton, is a major supplier to multiple retailers such as Argos and Tesco under licence for Jeff Banks Home and Silentnight.

In the year to the end of June the company, which is owned by the Moryoussef family saw profits double from £1.02m to £2.07m as sales climbed 12.7% to £62m.

In his trading review in accounts filed at Companies House director Max Moryoussef said: “The directors are pleased with the continued progress the business has made in a difficult economid climate.

“The group continues to drive sales and increase profits to deliver its strategy. It has substantially increased its sales to the larger retailers based on quality and reliability.”

He said the company’s UK manufacturing base had been extended to enable it to service its customers, while working capital had been a “strong focus” during the year.

“The current year has started well  despite continued adverse economic conditions and we expect to continue to progress even in this difficult market place.”

One the group’s more quirky products is the Sound Asleep pillow which contains an in-built speaker, allowing users to listen to music in bed without having to use headphones.

Last month the group, which has more than 220 employees, expanded with the acquisition of Gateshead-based Snug Textiles. The deal was funded by HSBC, the group’s main lender.
