117 job losses as Klarius Lancaster site closes

ADMINISTRATORS of North West car parts group Klarius have announced 117 redundancies at a site in Lancaster.

The Manchester-based company, which has a number of UK sites, was placed into administration on Wednesday after a slump in trading.

After announcing a deal earlier to sell one of the group businesses in Cheadle , Staffs, which secured 237 jobs, administrators KPMG said it was closing sites in Lancaster and Colwyn Bay, North Wales.

KPMG said the Quinton Hazell Automotive site at Glasson Dock in Lancaster would cease to operate along with another Quinton Hazell site in Colwyn Bay, where 79 people will lose their jobs.

Paul Flint, joint administrator and restructuring partner at KPMG, said: “Despite extensively marketing the Glasson Dock and Colwyn Bay sites to potential buyers, we were unable to find a buyer and have taken the difficult decision to wind them down.

“Prolonged challenging trading conditions in the automotive parts sector impacted QH’s performance. This created cashflow pressures and affected QH’s ability to trade as a going concern.”

Representatives from KPMG are at both site to provide support and further information to employees in claiming redundancy payments.
