Downing unveils student plans for Scandanavian

LIVERPOOL property group Downing has submitted fresh plans for the former Scandinavian Hotel in Liverpool’s Chinatown.

It wants to build 241 student rooms at the site, at the junction of Duke Street and Nelson Street, which has been empty since the 1980s and linked to several hotel plans.

According to a statement Liverpool and London-based architect Shedkm has drawn up designs for a mix of “cluster rooms and studios” as well as retail space on the ground floor.

The new building will incorporate much of the existing four-storey structure and a warehouse behind.

Paul Houghton, development director at Downing, said: “As one of the UK’s most experienced developers of student housing, with projects in Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, London and Cambridge, we are looking forward using our knowledge and expertise to bring forward another high quality student scheme, with 241 bedrooms and ground floor retail.”

An outcome of the planning submission is expected in April.
