Cameron hails Indian call centre investments

INDIAN software services group Tata Consultancy Service is to open a new facility in Liverpool this summer, creating and safeguarding up to 300 jobs.

In a further boost a further 70 jobs will be created in Preston by a second Indian group, Hinduja Global Solutions.

The investments were announced as Prime Minister David Cameron during the UK’s biggest-ever trade mission to India.

Mumbai-based Tata Consultancy’s new facility will deliver services to the Home Office, following a multi-million, multi-year contract which it won in November 2012 to manage the technology needs and support services of the new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

It is not known how many of the jobs are new positions as TCS is taking over a contract from outsourcing group Capita.

Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Tata has played a transformative role in the UK and I’m delighted that their consultancy service is now opening a delivery centre in Liverpool creating 300 new jobs. This will make a real difference to the local economy and further strengthen the company’s ties to the UK.”

Shankar Narayanan, country head, UK & Ireland, TCS, said, “Our work in the public sector is focused on improving services for the UK citizens and driving greater value for the UK government.

“Our investment in a new state-of-the-art, secure delivery center in Liverpool will allow us to effectively meet the business objectives of DBS to modernize and transform its business while supporting our longer term strategy for increased participation in transformation programs for the UK public sector.”

The TCS staff will be located at Tithebarn House, Tithebarn Street, the new centre will begin operating in July.

It was also announced that a second Indian company, Hinduja Global Solutions, will expand its TalkTalk operations in Preston, hiring 70 new staff.

Mr Cameron said: “It’s a vote of confidence in the team in Preston and the service they provide for TalkTalk clients across the UK.”
