Peel plans £150m biomass storage site

THE Mersey Docks and Harbour Company is looking for contractors to design and build a £150m wood pellet storage facility to supply biomass energy plants.

The “Biomass Import and Storage and Outloading to Rail” site will be capable of storing 350,000 tonnes of wood pellets.

The approximate contstruction cost of the first phase is £60m, and this should be finished by September 2014.

A tender document issued by the Peel Group-owned business said the work would involve the “overall management, design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and all testing, commissioning and validation”, of the site.

The deadline for expressions of interest is April 26.
