Lakes hotels on the market after administration

TWO tourist hotels in the Lakes have been put on the market after the companies running them fell into administration.

Taylor Hotels (Grasmere) traded as the 49-bed Red Lion Hotel while Riverside Hotels ran the 57-bed Burnside Hotel in Bowness.

Taylor Hotels is owned by Mark Taylor of Preston and he has an equal share in Riverside with Rachel Taylor.

Tracey Pye and Patrick Lannagan of the accountancy firm BDO were appointed joint administrators of both businesses, and Law of Property Act Receivers over associated properties, on March 1.

The hotels, which employ 78 staff, are continuing to trade. No explanation was given for the insolvency.

Ms Pye said: “As Joint Administrators, we will be doing all we can to ensure the future of the Red Lion Hotel and the Burnside Hotel. We are hopeful of achieving a sale of the hotels, and both will continue to operate whilst all opportunities are explored.”

Colliers and GVA have been appointed to market the hotels. In a joint statement they said: “The two hotels have already attracted strong interest from corporate purchasers. The hotels enjoy enviable positions within Bowness and Grasmere and both hotels come to the market with strong trading records and enviable reputations amongst local hoteliers.”
