Lawyer Whittell launches mediation venture

COMMERCIAL and insolvency litigator Mark Whittell has launched a new venture, a mediation boutique to resolve workplace disputes.

Mr Whittell, who was a partner at Cobbetts and moved over to DWF after its pre-pack acquisition, has left to set up Mediate North, which he plans to grow alongside working for Manchester law firm Gunner Cooke.

An experienced mediator Mr Whittell will also continued to work in association with North West Mediation Solutions – he is a co-founder and one of six experienced regional mediators in this network.

He said: “The demise of Cobbetts caused me to refocus my career and as I have always been involved in mediation , I feel there is so much more it can offer business as a way of resolving often lengthy and expensive disputes.

“We will target three areas, team mediation, partnership disputes and business owner disputes. I believe these are areas where we can save companies money – and where currently there is not a lot of choice.”

“The simplicity of a mediation boutique is that the client comes to us and whatever the problem we have a range of options to facilitate a solution. Mediation never fails because it always identifies the issues and makes all parties appreciate alternative views.”

Mr Whittell, from Marple Bridge, also plans to add matrimonial mediation in the coming weeks.
