Nanoco extends Asian development deal

MANCHESTER Nanotechnology firm Nanoco has extended a development agreement with a major electronics company based in Asia.

The firm said this was the second phase of a deal struck in February 2012 with the unnamed business that specialises in LCD displays and LED lighting. The potential value of the agreement was also not disclosed.

Nanoco makes quantum dots – tiny fluorescent particles of semiconductor material which have the ability to emit light. They are in demand by the makers of electronic goods, such as mobile phones and flat screen TVs, because they consume less power than existing systems.

The company said: “Discussions in relation to a commercial agreement with the Asian company and our manufacturing partner, The Dow Chemical Company, are progressing well and are separate to the current development work.”

Chief executive Michael Edelman added: “We look forward to carrying out further development work during the current phase to optimise our bespoke cadmium-free quantum dots for the company’s LCD display products and LEDs for general lighting.”
