Poole’s Pies right for Asda

POOLE’S Pies, the Wigan-based food manufacturer, has won a listing to supply frozen pies to 500 Asda stores.
The deal is significant for the 165-year-old brand as it is the first major national supply agreement.
The savoury pies to be supplied include chicken & mushroom, potato & meat, chunky steak, meat, steak & kidney and minced beef, as well as sausage rolls.
Poole’s managing director Neil Court-Johnston said: “We all know that Wigan is the home of the pie and ours have been enjoyed throughout the North West for 165 years, but we have long felt that the rest of the UK has been missing out.
“Clearly Asda agree with us and we are absolutely thrilled with this opportunity to roll out our brand nationally. This is superb news for the region and we believe that Asda has chosen our pastries because we combine the best quality with exceptional value.”
To mark the launch, Poole’s Pies has developed a new range of packaging which features new photography and a black and gold design.
Poole’s was established in 1847 as a local craft bakery. Wigan-based entrepreneur Dave Whelan bought the company in the late 1980s and invested heavily in the 300,000sq ft production facility. Mr Whelan sold Poole’s to Mr Court-Johnson in March 2012.
