184 jobs saved as Murphy buys Land and Marine

MURPHY group has acquired the assets of Land and Marine Project Engineering, a subsidiary of the failed Daniel Contractors group.

Administrators at Deloitte said the deal, which includes the transfer of contracts, had saved around 184 jobs, mainly at the company’s head office at Bromborough on the Wirral.

Land and Marine specialises in laying oil and gas pipelines. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Last week they said the transfer of contracts with United Utilities, Bristol Water and Dwy Cymru to other companies had saved 990 jobs.

So far 1,174 jobs have been protected at the Warrington business that employed 1,450. Some 124 have been made redundant.

The administrators said they would continue to review their options regarding the remaining areas of the business.

Joint administrator Bill Dawson said: “We are pleased that we have been able to reach an agreement with Murphy Group that ensures that a further 184 jobs have been saved. We have had a number of expressions of interest in the remaining elements of the group that we are hopeful may result in further business transfers.”

Daniel Contractors, owned by the Daniel family, went into administration on Wednesday.

Murphy was advised on the acquisition by North West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street.
