Manchester United agrees Mexican credit card deal

MANCHESTER United has struck a four-year sponsorship deal with the Mexican bank INVEX.
The agreement allows INVEX to produce Manchester United branded credit cards aimed at around 24 million Mexican supporters.
The club said it was the first financial services sponsorship deal in North America. A spokesman said the club’s 2006 shirt sponsorship deal with US insurer was a global deal and the marketing for AIG Direct was aimed at UK consumers. The Invex deal will target credit card holders in Mexico and the US.
Manchester United’s commercial director, Richard Arnold said: “Mexico is well known for its love of football and Manchester United is lucky enough to have some 24 million loyal and passionate followers in the country.
“No-one could forget the fantastic reception the club received in 2010 when the team opened the Chivas Stadium in Guadalajara. Our partnership with INVEX shows our commitment to these fans and we are delighted to be partnering with such an innovative organisation.”
The credit card will offer fans benefits and offers including discounts at the club’s online store and Manchester United membership programme. INVEX has annual sales of £160m and a database of 100,000 credit card customers.
