Manufacturer JJO hoping to benefit from construction up-tick

JJO, the Lancashire manufacturer and wholesaler of kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, has reported increased profits for the last year and is expecting market conditions to improve over the coming 12 months.

The privately-owned company which employs around 320 people at its 750,000 sq ft base in Bacup produces the Colonial Kitchens, Colonial Bedrooms, eco Kitchens and eco Bathrooms ranges, which are sold nationwide.

Newly-filed accounts for J&J Ormerod for the year to the end of February show the group increased profits from £1.3m to £1.4m on turnover flat at £35m.

JJO, which traces its roots back more than 100 years, said its directors were “very pleased” with the trading performance during challenging market conditions.

Managing director Stephen Greenhalgh said as well as maintaining turnover, growing profits and paying-off short-term borrowings, the company had continued to invest in new plant and equipment to boost production capabilities.

Further investments in plant upgrades to improve efficiency and reduce labour costs will be made in the coming year.

Looking ahead Mr Greenhalgh said: “It is our belief that the year to February 2014 will see a return to growth in the construction sector to mirror the housing market which is already showing positive signs.

“These factors, together with the strong balance sheet and market situation of the business make the directors increasingly confident for the coming year.”
