Firms encourage to make equality pledge
EMBRACE quality and diversity is the message being sent out to North West employers.
As part of celebr8 (don’t discrimin8) – the region’s festival of diversity – firms are being ecouraged to adopt an equality business pledge that will help raise awareness of the benefits experience and culture can add to the workplace as well as the bottom line.
The pledge is divided into three segments – to value diversity in the workplace, to work to promote equality and fairness at work and to actively tackle discrimination.
Christine Burns, chair of the North West equality and diversity group, said that businesses were facing an increasingly diverse environment and that firms needed to harness and embrace diversity in increasingly competitive markets.
“Research has shown that 83% of companies that have adopted diversity policies believe they made good business sense,” she added.
A series of seminars are being held across the North West this month to help firms create such policies.
Companies wishing to sign up for the pledge or to register for the seminars should contact celebr8 on 0161 2389422.
