Eco-homes first for company

NORTH WEST building firm Construction Partnership UK is set to create its first eco-homes in Manchester.

The company has negotiated a £1.9m contract with Crosby Lend Lease to construct an eco-friendly apartment development.

The deal with the home-builders will see CPUK build 24 one and two bedroom apartments in Whalley Range, two miles from Manchester city centre.

The apartments will include a host of eco-friendly features and will be the first Crosby Lend Lease development built in accordance with the Government’s new Code for Sustainable Homes.

The green code includes minimum standards for energy and water efficiency and measures the sustainability of a home against key design categories.

The Orban development is scheduled to be completed next June.

Steve Burke, managing director of Skelmersdale-based CPUK, said: “We are delighted to have negotiated this contract with Crosby Lend Lease and to be working with them to introduce new sustainable features into their already high-specification homes.

“The apartments at Orban will be fitted with sophisticated heating and water systems and a whole range of measures to ensure sustainability and to make them cheaper to run for homeowners.

CPUK is also working on a £7m contract to construct an 85-apartment building in the heart of Preston, and has just completed a £3m project for an apartment block in Southport, Merseyside.

The company is also constructing its new offices at Métier Property Holdings’ White Moss Business Park in Skelmersdale.

It is part of the first stage of a new £12.5m business park being built by CPUK for Cheshire-based commercial property expert Métier on the site, just off junction four of the M58. The modern building will be home CPUK’s 66-strong workforce.

The company was founded in March 2000 by Steve Burke, a former director of Birse Construction and Wimpey, and Stuart Whittle, former managing director of a £150m turnover aerospace company.
