Leading school seals funding for new 6th form block

A MULTI-million pound sixth form centre at one of the region’s leading independent girls’ schools has moved a step closer after a funding deal.

Manchester High School for Girls has agreed a £3m funding package from Santander corporate and commercial for the new facility, which includes
new laboratories and IT facilities, a lecture theatre, six classrooms, a café and common rooms, as well as office and administration space.

The development is the latest phase of a renewal programme which began 10 years ago. So far Manchester High School it has replaced its sports hall and extended the preparatory school.

Founded in 1874, it provides education to around 900 girls aged 4 to 18. It has been located at its current site on Grangethorpe Road, Fallowfield since 1949.

The current sixth form will not be impacted during the construction  and relocation to, the new centre in 2014.

Claire Hewitt, headmistress of Manchester High School for Girls, said:  “We are excited about embarking on this new project to modernise and update our sixth-form centre.

“We are dedicated to providing the best possible environment for our pupils to help them enjoy the experience of learning, and committed to providing the best possible resources for our students.”
