Morgan Sindall lands £19m Crewe roads contract

CONSTRUCTION and infrastructure firm Morgan Sindall has been awarded a project to design and construct a 1.1 kilometre dual-carriageway link road near Crewe for Cheshire East Council.

The has been appointed on an early contractor involvement basis and will complete the work within an allocated £19m contract. The overall scheme cost is £27m.

The dual-carriageway will run between the existing roundabout on the northern spur off the A500 Hough-Shavington bypass up to the A5020 Weston Gate roundabout.

When complete in November 2015, the project will create an alternative bypass for Crewe, reducing traffic passing through the town and providing easier access to the A500 and M6.

The highways project includes a central reservation and a pedestrian and cycleway running along both sides of the road for the full length of the bypass. The route will also incorporate service ducts which will carry road related infrastructure and utilities.

The scheme also involves the construction of a new rail underbridge to enable the road to run under the Crewe to Derby railway line.

Gary Crisp, highways director at Morgan Sindall, said: “This is our first project with Cheshire East Council and we look forward to working together to realise this important scheme.

“We have comprehensive expertise of delivering road and rail projects across the UK safely, on time and to budget. We will use this experience to ensure that disruptions to the travelling public are minimised and that the scheme is completed to programme.”
