Glossop Cartons raises the bar with fresh investment

A FAMILY-owned packaging products manufacturer has raised its game – and earned praise in the highests echelons of power for a major investment.

Glossop Cartons, which employs 50 people at its factory in Padfield, is thought to have become the first manufacturer in the world to commission a state-of-the-art laser cutting and creasing machine, called Highcon Euclid.

The investment enables it to offer customers faster speeds to market, greater flexibility and also allows it to make cost savings on shorter production runs.

Local MP Andrew Bingham recently praised Glossop Cartons and showcased its investment to  David Cameron during Prime Minister’s questions.

The machine, which was designed and manufactured by Highcon with input from Glossop Cartons, has the technology to create digital cutting and creasing lines with a unique high speed and high quality laser cutting solution.

Director Jacky Sidebottom said: “Over the last four years, we have invested over £4m in new machines to ensure that we remain one of the leading quality suppliers in the industry.

“The investment in the Highcon Euclid fully supports the ethos of Glossop Cartons to look to technological innovations within the industry to benefit our customers and to strengthen our offer in the market.”

Last year the £4.6m turnover company, which makes packaging for retailers and leisure businesses, celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Mrs Didebottom added: “We remain a family-run business that relies primarily on the loyalty and dedication of our team to continue to thrive in the current financial climate.

“We’re committed to investing in new technology to ensure that our customers are working with not just a leading manufacturer, but one that is at the forefront of the packaging industry in terms of quality, value and service.”
