Former rugby player launches gym business

A FORMER professional rugby player is launching a new gym brand, offering premium facilities and service, but a low cost.

Gareth Evans, 30, who played rubgy union in Rome for Lazio RUFC, is investing more than £1m in his first site for i-motion gym, which is in Rotherham.

The plan is to establish a chain of gyms across the north over the next two years. He is looking for more sites, but doesn’t expect to open in this region until next year.

He said: “Having worked in the health sector for some years following my retirement from rugby it became apparent that there was a real gap in the market for a premium, low cost gym operator that matched the quality of the more upmarket brands.

“We’ve developed an offer that will have broad appeal and offers ultimate flexibility.  Our gyms will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and feature high quality Matrix equipment, over 70 classes a week, contemporary décor and most importantly, have a low cost monthly fee, with no contract.”

The gym in Rotherham is a refurbished former 15,500 sq ft. Energie gym on Stoddard Way in Parkgate.
