Liverpool factory hit by strike action

WORKERS at King & Fowler Limited in Liverpool will be taking further strike action today in a dispute over pay.

Over 40 Unite members at the metal finishing company, which is a supplier to the aerospace industry, will go on strike at 11pm until 7am on Monday.

It is the fourth stoppage at the Brunswick Business Park factory which has around 60 staff. An overtime ban started on August 23.

Unite says it wants “a fair pay rise” for its members who have not had a rise since 2008. The company has previously declined to comment and could not be reached at the time of publication.

Unite regional officer Donna Davies said: “Our members have been left with no alternative, but to strike to win a pay rise. Many are struggling to live on their current wage. Inflation has gone up since 2008 and their wages have not. All they want is a living wage and to be recognised for their skills and commitment to the company.

“There is still time to resolve this dispute – we are urging King Fowler management to come to the table and make our members a fair and decent pay rise that reflects their hard work.”

Councillor Steve Munby, local ward councillor and a member of the city council’s cabinet, said: “‪As a local councillor and member of Unite I am proud to be showing our support for fellow union members fighting for a living wage.‬”
