Decision on Carrington ‘imminent’

AGENTS acting for Shell are said to be days away from announcing a preferred bidder for the 1,600-acre Carrington site in Greater Manchester.

TheBusinessDesk understands an announcement is imminent and a deal should be completed by the end of the year.

St Modwen, Manchester-based Peel and Langtree in Newton-le-Willows have made the shortlist from around 20 bidders to buy what would be the largest brownfield redevelopment in the North West, and one of the largest in the UK.

Peel is thought to be the favourite in some quarters as it owns the adjoining Port Salford site. The former chemical works is designated in Trafford Council’s core strategy for a mixed-use development with 1,560 new homes and 185 acres for economic development.

Jones Lang LaSalle is advising Shell on the sale of the site which is close to junction 8 of the M60. It declined to comment.
